PUMAPundit and Ed Morrissey ask some very good questions about change.gov. I don’t much care about the data-mining… if you’re stupid enough to give your info away, you deserve whatever you get. And I don’t even really care that the site exists. The main question is: what does it take to get a .gov domain name, and who authorizes it? Can a mere senator like Obama get one? Now, it may well be that an “Office of the President-elect” is a good idea, or at least no worse an idea than any other government bureaucracy. If it is, Congress should establish it. This is a bit much like “Stroke of the pen, law of the land; pretty cool.” Begala said that about Slick Willie, but the technique was brought to perfection by Gee Dubya. And Oh Bummer is going to show us unconceived of wrinkles on the principle.

I did read something yesterday which said Congress actually did establish an Office of the P-E–and that Billy Jeff C. used the term for himself in ‘92, with official letterhead, etc. So Obama is simply recycling someone else’s idea.
Well, actually, Obama is simply recycling other people’s ideas all the time, I suppose….
