No, we’re not laughing at your little joke

September 28, 2011

You want to suspend elections, Beaver? Then you’re cool with those who would like you out of office removing you by non-electoral means? I mean, you’re clearly in violation of your oath of office; advocating violation of the US Constitution is clearly not supporting it:

Article 3, Executive

Sec. 4. Oath of office for Governor.

The Governor, before entering upon the duties of his office, shall, before any Justice of the Supreme Court, take an oath or affirmation that he will support the Constitution and laws of the United States and of the State of North Carolina, and that he will faithfully perform the duties pertaining to the office of governor.

Weinergate

June 1, 2011

OK, I don’t much care if he sent a babe a crotch shot. I do care about the coverup, and the fact that he’s accusing somebody of a crime without getting law enforcement involved. He’s moved pretty solidly into the “clown” category. I’ll bet Huma is having second thoughts about their wedding having been officiated by a serial philanderer (Bill Clinton). At AoSHQ, Ben says of the notorious Dana Bash interview, “Honestly, this is the second worst press conference I’ve ever seen. Only the Bud [sic] Dwyer press conference was worse. ” Though the Dwyer press conference had a happy ending (not for Dwyer).

Gotta wonder how long we’ll be eating the popcorn on this one.

SNAP judgment

April 19, 2011

Dr. Steve Taylor, a Louisiana psychiatrist who has worked with the Survivors Network for those Abused by Priests (SNAP) and tried to convince the Louisiana legislature to allow the confessional seal to broken in sex abuse cases, has been sentenced to two years in prison for possession of child pornography.

Now, I’m not going to be as anxious to serve up hot buttered schadenfreud as Bill Donohue. I’ve known some perfectly fine people who, through no fault of their own, have had kiddie porn on their computer, before they wiped it clean. Presumably the jury looked at that possibility, and found no support for it, but it could have happened.

What I find interesting is this:

[Taylor]voiced his objections to a unanimous decision by the Louisiana House Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice protecting the confidential communication of priests, ministers, rabbis and other clergy members. At the time, Taylor said that the seal has to be broken because “We have faces now.”

Taylor certainly should have known that the seal of the confessional is not a matter of civil but of canon law, and that a priest who breaks it is in that instant no longer a priest, or even a Catholic. Saints have gone to their death to protect it, so doing some time in prison is a comparatively light thing.  Since in 99 cases of 100, that would be the end result of Taylor’s proposed law, one has to ask why he hates Catholic priests so.  I think we’ve found the answer ; as usual, it’s a sexual issue.

Obligatory Massacree Post

January 12, 2011

I was minding my own business Saturday on Facebook when I encountered this:

The shooting in Arizona today is the final torpedo that will sink the extreme right. I hope no one is stupid enough OR un-American enough to defend that action.

Well, so I go, “WHAT shooting?’ And hit the news to find out. I started this post, but didn’t finish.

And so it went. Finer minds than mine have chewed on this. I was throwing updates on Facebook because I was personally offended. Kudos to the Left for taking a tragedy and making it about themselves and their positions. Your maturity has been noted.

And then there was the “Blame Sarah Palin” game. I’m not much impressed by Sarah’s positions or vision, but if she can wiggle her nose and automagically cause some guy to throw his life away (along with 6 others), what other impressive things could she do? Seriously, I’ve never seen Democrats campaign so hard for a candidate.

Stealing Jesus in Scranton

Blessed Bartolo Longo, pray for these knuckledragging perverts poor sinners, that they might follow your example and forsake the worship of Satan.

Physician, heal thyself

July 27, 2010

Tonya Hunter marriage-counsels herself, from the afterlife:

1. Don’t pick up men in anger-management classes…especially when you’re the teacher.

2. Don’t marry a thug.

3. Don’t buy more house than you need.

4. Let hubby earn his own money.

Just sad, all of this. But funny, in a warped ironic sort of way.

Blogetery

July 20, 2010

There’s been quite a bit of conjecture about this affair being “a test of the Internet kill switch“. Apparently, it wasn’t quite that, yet. The Fibbies found some Al Quada material on a Blogotery blog, and went to Blogotery’s server BurstNET, who cancelled the account as a TOS violation.

The Blogetery guy doesn’t sound as if English is his first language, and he doesn’t sound like a whiz on server law either. Should he realistically be expected to police 69K blogs? Is it reasonable for BurstNET to terminate 69K bloggers over the actions of one? What this tells me is that a “kill switch” isn’t needed: the government can pretty much shut down what it wants, under the guise of “fighting terrorism”.

A representative for Burst.net said the company had offered Blogetery’s operator his money back, but that “should be the least of his concerns.”

Personally, I think Burst has just as much to worry about as Blogetery. If I were a customer, I’d be looking for a new server.

Dr. Kavorkian, estate planner

July 14, 2010

George Steinbrenner’s exquisite timing has been noted in various media today. It seems there might be a place for “extreme estate planning.” If you’re on a respirator, have terminal cancer, etc. and are part of the moneyed class, you might want to pull the plug “for the children”, since you aren’t long anyway. As a Christian, I can’t recommend helping God’s process through artificial and violent means. But I can see how even somebody relatively healthy who wanted to save his family $500m or so might decide that he didn’t want to die alone in such a target-rich environment. There are bound to be unintended consequences to a 55% death tax.

UPDATE 7/16: I’m not the only one to think of this… and other people have statistics and interviews.

The Blimp of Flint steals a news story

July 13, 2010

Michael Moore is a liar. You don’t think he will go the extra mile and become a thief?

There’s no “become” about it. Moore’s entire Weltanschauung is based on disposal of other people’s property. So when he flagrantly rips off somebody’s intellectual property, why should it be surprising or even worthy of comment? The man is what he is.

Jeffrey Quick, multiple felon

June 9, 2010

Any man who shall seduce and debauch any unmarried woman shall be guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment in the state prison not more than 5 years or by fine of not more than 2,500 dollars …. –Michigan Penal Code § 750.532

As a former Michigan resident, I was guilty of a half-dozen or so such cases. My defence would be that in most cases. I was the one who was seduced and debauched. And I was ignorant of the law, though “ignorance of the law is no excuse”.

The shocking thing is that this law is still being enforced, generally as a plea bargain.

H/T: Balko.
