Helen Jones-Kelley packs it in

The director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, made infamous when she ordered spying on “Joe the Plumber”, has just quit her job.

“This decision comes after having a time of pause,” she said, “in which I realize that I continue to be used as a political postscript, providing a distraction from urgent state priorities.”

It’s a heck of a time to be unemployed, especially if you’re used to a $141K lifestyle…which makes me think we aren’t hearing the rest of the story. I fully expect Jones-Kelley to be nominated to a cushy position with TSA, where her nosiness can be put to equally bad use. Chicago pols know how to take care of their own.

UPDATE: Thompson and Williams are gone too.

One Response to Helen Jones-Kelley packs it in

  1. Helen Jones-Kelley’s fate illustrates the unprecedented transparency that technology is bringing to society. Just as (allegedly) Plumber Joe’s privacy was breached, access logs in Ohio’s information systems show when his data was accessed and from which particular government offices. That’s powerful stuff. Data logs enable a deep investigation into precisely who made the access and whether it was legal. If people acted illegally, the digital evidence can lead to their punishment. Such transparency represents a big trend in society http://hack-igations.blogspot.com/2007/12/people-in-authority-sometimes-abuse.html –Ben
